Fresh Fish Delivered to Upton & the Lytchetts

Fish and shellfish from Poole's counter, delivered across BH16 by refrigerated vehicle

Delivering to Upton

We deliver to Upton, the Lytchetts and all BH16 postcodes by refrigerated vehicle, Tuesday to Saturday. Free delivery, £40 minimum order.

BH16 wraps the quiet western edge of Poole Harbour: Upton and Lytchett Minster looking out over Holes Bay and Lytchett Bay, with Lytchett Matravers, Sandford and Holton Heath behind them. It is a stretch that lives closer to the water than most of Poole does, and has further to go for a fish counter. We are about fifteen minutes east along the A35.

Serving the streets around Upton Country Park, Upton House, Holes Bay, Lytchett Bay, Bakers Arms roundabout.

Fresh Off the Boat

Day-boat and locally landed wherever the catch allows, sourced each morning and never frozen-then-thawed. The same fish that fills our Parkstone counter goes into every Upton order.

Prepared to Order, Your Way

Filleted, descaled, pin-boned, skinned or portioned exactly how you ask, by hand, by people who do it all day. Tell us how you're cooking it and we'll prepare it to match.

Chilled to Your Door

Delivered across Upton in our own refrigerated van, not by a courier or the post. Free on orders over £40, Tuesday to Saturday, arriving as fresh as the counter.

From Our Counter

The Catch, Up Close

The Quiet Side of the Harbour

Stand at the bottom of Upton Country Park and the water in front of you is the same water that laps Sandbanks, just the far, still end of it. Holes Bay on one side, Lytchett Bay on the other, mudflats, egrets, and a view across to the cranes on the quay. BH16 is about as close to Poole Harbour as an address can get without being in the town, and it is one of the few stretches of that shoreline with no fish counter anywhere near it.

That is the odd thing about this postcode. People here live on the harbour, walk beside it most weekends, and still have a drive ahead of them for something that came out of the sea. We are fifteen minutes east along the A35, and BH16 sits on our regular round, so the simpler answer is usually that we come to you.

Five Villages on One Round

BH16 is not one place, it is five with a shared postcode. Upton is the biggest, strung along the main road with the country park at its foot. Lytchett Minster sits just west at the Bakers Arms, where everyone heading for Dorchester turns. Lytchett Matravers is up and back from the main road, a proper village with its own life. Sandford and Holton Heath carry on toward Wareham along the heath.

All five are on the same delivery round, Tuesday to Saturday, and none of them costs extra. Delivery is free across every BH postcode on orders over £40. If you are on the edge of the district and not certain we reach you, the postcode checker in the basket will tell you in a second, or you can call and ask for Steve on 01202 747661.

Shopping Like a Village, Not a High Street

There is a rhythm to shopping out here that is different from town. Nobody nips out for one fillet. The shop is a drive, so the shop happens once: a bigger basket, planned across several nights, with something held back for the end of the week.

Fish has a reputation for not fitting that rhythm. It half deserves it: a fresh fillet wants eating within a day or two, and it will not sit politely in the fridge until Friday. The fix is not to buy less fish, it is to buy it in two forms.

Why the freezer drawer earns its place

Buy the fresh fish for the front of the week: the fillets you will cook Tuesday and Wednesday, prepared how you want them before they leave us. Then put a couple of frozen portions in the drawer for later on. Frozen carries an unfair reputation: fish frozen at sea within hours of being landed is caught, cleaned and locked in at its best. Defrost it slowly in the fridge overnight, pat it properly dry, and it behaves like the fresh piece it was. If you would rather freeze the fresh fish you have just bought, say so and we will vacuum-pack and label it for you. It’s free, and it goes into the freezer in far better condition than it would in a bag.

Our smoked fish does a similar job. Smoked mackerel keeps well, needs no cooking at all, and turns into supper on a night when nobody wants to cook. Flake it through a salad, or into the pâté we make on the premises.

The A35 Runs Past Our Door

The other half of this is that a lot of BH16 already drives past us. The road into Poole from the Bakers Arms runs more or less to our door on Bournemouth Road, and the school run, the commute and the trip to the retail parks all use it.

Collection is free and has no minimum, which makes it worth knowing about. Ring in the morning with what you want, tell us roughly when you will be passing, and it will be boxed and waiting: filleted, skinned, pin-boned, whatever you asked for. It costs you the thirty seconds it takes to pull in. For a single piece of bass on the way home, that beats waiting in for a van.

Fish That Suits a Weeknight

Most of what leaves here for BH16 is not for a dinner party. It is Tuesday, there are people to feed, and it needs to be on the table inside half an hour.

That is what fish is actually good at, once you stop treating it as an occasion. A side of salmon baked with lemon and herb butter feeds six out of one tin with about five minutes of work. Prawn linguine is fifteen minutes start to finish and is the one our own staff cook on a weeknight. Whole mackerel on the barbecue in summer costs almost nothing and tastes like the seaside you live next to.

If you are not sure what to pick, the seasonal calendar lays out what is at its peak month by month, and the species guides tell you what each fish is actually like before you commit to it. Or do what most people do and ring us. Tell Steve how many you are feeding and what you fancy, and he will tell you what came in looking best that morning.

Always quality produce and great customer service.

I am a Private Chef and I love going into Parkstone Fisheries! The fish is of outstanding quality, mostly local and dayboat caught. The knowledge the whole team have is second to none. And if you want the bones for stock...probably best not get one that Jason has filleted as it will JUST be bones. Looking forward to going in there for many years to come!

★★★★★
We were so impressed with our first visit to Parkstone Fisheries. We received a very friendly welcome and advice on the fish they supply. We look forward to cooking the plaice tonight and the smoked haddock tomorrow. We're very pleased to know they smoke the fish themselves. We'll definitely visit again. It's sad that so many fishmongers have closed but we're grateful to have such a high quality shop near where we live.

Upton: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you deliver fresh fish to Upton and the Lytchetts?

Yes: Upton, Lytchett Minster, Lytchett Matravers, Sandford and Holton Heath are all BH16 and all on our regular round. We deliver by refrigerated vehicle Tuesday to Saturday, free on orders over £40.

How long does it take to get to Upton from your shop?

About fifteen minutes from our counter on Bournemouth Road, straight out along the A35. It is one of the shorter runs we make, which is exactly what you want between a fish counter and your fridge.

Can I collect instead of having it delivered?

Plenty of BH16 customers do. Collection is free with no minimum order, so it suits a single piece of fish as much as a full shop, and if you drive into Poole for work you are passing us anyway.

We shop once a week out here. Will the fish keep?

Fresh fish is at its best within a couple of days, so tell us which night you plan to cook it and we will advise. For the back half of the week, ask about frozen-at-sea portions, or let us vacuum-pack and label your fresh fish for the freezer. That is a free service, and it means the fish goes in at its best.
