Your Fishmonger in Christchurch

Fresh fish, shellfish, and seafood delivered to your door in Christchurch by refrigerated vehicle

Delivering to Christchurch

We deliver to all Christchurch postcodes (BH23) by refrigerated vehicle, Tuesday to Saturday. Free delivery, £40 minimum order.

Christchurch sits where the rivers Avon and Stour meet the sea, a town with deep connections to fishing and the coast. Despite this heritage, the town has no dedicated fishmonger, making Parkstone Fisheries the natural choice for residents who want properly fresh fish cut to order and delivered to the door.

Serving the streets around Mudeford Quay, Christchurch Harbour, Christchurch Priory, Highcliffe Castle, Stanpit Marsh.

Fresh Off the Boat

Day-boat and locally landed wherever the catch allows, sourced each morning and never frozen-then-thawed. The same fish that fills our Parkstone counter goes into every Christchurch order.

Prepared to Order, Your Way

Filleted, descaled, pin-boned, skinned or portioned exactly how you ask, by hand, by people who do it all day. Tell us how you're cooking it and we'll prepare it to match.

Chilled to Your Door

Delivered across Christchurch in our own refrigerated van, not by a courier or the post. Free on orders over £40, Tuesday to Saturday, arriving as fresh as the counter.

From Our Counter

The Catch, Up Close

A Town That Already Knows Its Fish

Plenty of places we deliver to are learning what good fish tastes like. Christchurch isn’t one of them. This is a town built between the Avon and the Stour, with its own harbour and a quay at Mudeford where boats still come in and children still drop a line for crabs off the wall on a summer afternoon. People here grew up around water. They can tell you when the bass are running and what the sole looks like fresh off a day boat.

So we’re not going to lecture Christchurch about freshness. You know. What we offer is the part the quay can’t always cover: range when you want more than what came in that morning, proper preparation when you’d rather not do it at the sink, and a steady supply for the days you’re feeding a houseful. We’re eight miles west in Parkstone, and our refrigerated van runs out to every corner of BH23: the town centre, the Quay, Highcliffe, Stanpit, Purewell, Somerford, Burton, and the lanes down to Friars Cliff.

What We Add to a Fishing Town

There’s a real pleasure in cooking what’s landed locally, and we’d never argue with it. But the harbour gives you what the harbour gives you. Some evenings you want scallops and a side of smoked salmon, not whatever the tide brought.

That’s the gap we fill.

Range beyond the day’s catch

Our counter carries the local species you’d expect alongside the ones that don’t come into Mudeford: diver-caught scallops, native and rock oysters, shellfish for a proper spread, prawns from cold-water and warm, and a fresh fish case that changes with the season. Where we can get it day-boat or locally landed, we do. The rest is chosen the same way: by people who’ve handled fish their whole working lives and won’t put out anything they wouldn’t take home.

Prep done properly

If you’ve filleted your own mackerel off the quay, you’ll know it’s satisfying and a little fiddly. We’re happy to do the fiddly part. Tell us how you want it when you order: pin-boned, skinned, butterflied, cut into portions, a whole fish gutted and scaled ready for the oven. There’s no charge for it and no fixed list; if it’s a reasonable cut, we’ll do it. It’s the difference between starting dinner and finishing the fishmonger’s work first.

Things we make ourselves

Two of the things Christchurch buys most are made on site, not bought in. We smoke our own salmon over the road from the counter, and we make our own pâté by hand. They turn up in our smoked salmon and smoked fish ranges and on the platters, and they’re the easy answer when someone’s coming round and you want to put something good out without cooking. The marinated deli shelf does the same job from the other direction: dressed, ready, no pan required.

Entertaining by the Harbour

Christchurch does a lot of entertaining. Boats moored at the Quay, lunches that drift into the afternoon, family down for the weekend, a table of people who’ve spent the morning on the water and come back hungry. A platter built the morning it’s delivered, piled with crab, smoked salmon and shell-on prawns, sits on the table and looks after itself while you pour the wine. For a sit-down meal, a side of salmon or a tray of fresh fillets does the heavy lifting. If you want a hand deciding, call Steve on 01202 747661; he’ll tell you straight what’s eating well that week, and you can always check the seasonal calendar first.

Why Order Ahead Out Here

Christchurch is a slightly longer run for the van than the streets nearer the shop, so the rhythm matters a little more. We deliver Tuesday to Saturday, and the rule is simple: order by 3pm and we’ll get it to you on the next available delivery day. Beat the cutoff and tonight’s planning is tomorrow’s dinner.

A few things worth knowing if you’re new to ordering from us:

  • Free delivery across BH23, with a £40 minimum order. No courier, no Royal Mail. It travels in our own refrigerated van and arrives as cold as it left the counter.
  • Tuesday to Saturday delivery; we’re closed Sunday and Monday.
  • Heading our way regardless? Collection is free from the Parkstone counter with no minimum: handy if you’re driving into Poole and want to pick up a single fillet on the way back. Counter hours are Tuesday to Friday 7:30am-4pm and Saturday 7:30am-3pm.

We’ve been doing this since the 1920s: a hundred years and counting, with a 4.7 rating from the people who shop with us. That’s a long time to learn what keeps a customer coming back, and most of it comes down to not cutting corners on the fish.

After It Arrives

Half the work of a good fish supper is buying the right fish; we’ll handle that end. The rest is easy. A fresh fillet of bass wants nothing more than a hot pan, a little butter, and about fifteen minutes. Our bass method walks you through it. If you’ve taken a tub of our pâté, the smoked mackerel pâté page shows how the same idea works on toast for an easy starter. There’s more in the recipes, and the blog has the cooking and buying notes we’d happily talk you through over the counter: how to tell what’s freshest, how to store it once it’s home.

When you’re ready, browse the full range and put your order in before 3pm.

I am a Private Chef and I love going into Parkstone Fisheries! The fish is of outstanding quality, mostly local and dayboat caught. The knowledge the whole team have is second to none. And if you want the bones for stock...probably best not get one that Jason has filleted as it will JUST be bones. Looking forward to going in there for many years to come!

★★★★★
We were so impressed with our first visit to Parkstone Fisheries. We received a very friendly welcome and advice on the fish they supply. We look forward to cooking the plaice tonight and the smoked haddock tomorrow. We're very pleased to know they smoke the fish themselves. We'll definitely visit again. It's sad that so many fishmongers have closed but we're grateful to have such a high quality shop near where we live.
