Delivering to Verwood
We deliver to all Verwood postcodes (BH31) by refrigerated vehicle, Tuesday to Saturday. Free delivery, £40 minimum order.
Verwood sits on the northern edge of the BH postcode area, surrounded by heathland and forest. It's a growing town with a strong community, but like many smaller Dorset towns, it has no fishmonger. Parkstone Fisheries brings over a century of expertise directly to Verwood's doorstep.
Serving the streets around Moors Valley Country Park, Ringwood Forest, Cranborne Chase AONB.
Fresh Off the Boat
Day-boat and locally landed wherever the catch allows, sourced each morning and never frozen-then-thawed. The same fish that fills our Parkstone counter goes into every Verwood order.
Prepared to Order, Your Way
Filleted, descaled, pin-boned, skinned or portioned exactly how you ask, by hand, by people who do it all day. Tell us how you're cooking it and we'll prepare it to match.
Chilled to Your Door
Delivered across Verwood in our own refrigerated van, not by a courier or the post. Free on orders over £40, Tuesday to Saturday, arriving as fresh as the counter.

A young town that never grew a fish counter
Most towns this size grew up around a high street, and somewhere on that street was a fishmonger. Verwood skipped that chapter. It went from a scattering of heath cottages to one of the fastest-growing towns in this corner of Dorset inside a couple of generations, almost all of it modern family housing laid out across the slopes between Potterne Park and the edge of Cranborne Chase. The estates came first; the shops that came after were the ones a new commuter town needs: a supermarket, a chemist, a coffee place near the Hub. A wet fish counter was never part of the plan.
So a lot of households up here have simply never had one to use. That is the gap we close from Poole. We have run the same counter at 12 Bournemouth Road since the 1920s, more than a hundred years, and BH31 is firmly on our weekly round. Order by 3pm and your fish is cut to order and loaded onto the van for the next available day, Tuesday to Saturday, free on orders over £40, in our own refrigerated vehicle rather than a courier’s van.
Cooking fish on a school night
The kitchens in Verwood are busy ones. Two jobs, after-school clubs, a swim or a class at the Hub, and supper that has to happen somewhere in the middle of all that. Fish has a reputation for being fiddly or risky midweek, and that reputation keeps a lot of younger cooks away from it. It shouldn’t.
Tell us how you want it and we do the awkward part before it ever reaches you. Fillets come skinned and pin-boned, ready to drop straight into a hot pan, so a fresh fish supper is on the table faster than a delivery pizza turns up. For the evenings when nobody has a spare ten minutes, our coated portions go from freezer to oven tray with no thought required, and a bag of frozen prawns or white fish in the drawer means there is always a plan B. If you are still finding your feet with fish, the blog walks through the basics, and the recipes are written for real weeknights rather than restaurant kitchens.
Getting children to eat it
Plenty of our newer Verwood customers are quietly trying to get a fussy six-year-old to eat something that swam. Mild and boneless is the way in. Breaded goujons, a flaky white fillet folded through a fish pie, a few sweet cooked prawns to pick at. Once a child decides fish is a normal thing for tea, you have them for life. We are glad to point you towards the gentlest options when you order.
What you can only get from a proper counter
There is a tier of seafood worth knowing comes to your door out here. We cure and smoke our own smoked salmon at the shop and make our own pâté on the premises. The shellfish changes with what the boats land: dressed crab, scallops, mussels, a lobster when you want to mark something. For a birthday or a houseful at the weekend, a ready-made platter does the hosting for you, and the marinated deli counter fills in the easy extras. Most of our fish is landed on the south coast, day-boat and locally caught when the weather allows, and cut the morning it goes out to you.
The Hub, Potterne Park and the heath beyond
Verwood does community well for a town its age. The Hub pulls people in for the library, the pool and whatever is on that week; Potterne Park is where the football and the dog walks happen; and a short way out the houses give way to the open heath and the woods of Cranborne Chase. A morning at the park or a long walk up towards the Chase earns a good supper, and it is a better end to the day than something reheated. Stock the freezer and there is always something proper waiting, whatever time you get home. Not sure what to cook? The seasonal calendar shows what is at its peak this month, which is always the fish worth buying.
Three Legged Cross to the Edmondsham lanes
BH31 is more than the estates in the middle of town. It runs out west to Three Legged Cross, up through Dewlands Common and Ebblake, and along the quiet lanes towards Edmondsham and the Chase. We deliver to all of it, the new closes and the older cottages alike. This is one of the further-flung corners we still reach, and we reach it properly: the same van, the same cold chain, the same fish you would be handed across the counter in Poole.
If you would rather collect, you are very welcome at the Poole shop, and there is no minimum order on collection, handy if you are heading down that way anyway. We are open Tuesday to Friday 7:30am to 4pm and Saturday 7:30am to 3pm, closed Sunday and Monday.
Order fish to Verwood
Everything in the shop comes to BH31, from the town centre to Three Legged Cross and out to the Chase lanes. After more than a century at the same counter and a 4.7 rating from the people we feed, we know fish, and we are happy to teach as much as we sell. Tell us how you like it prepared and we will sort the rest. Order online or call 01202 747661.
What People Say
Rated 4.7 by 205+ Customers
Always quality produce and great customer service.
I am a Private Chef and I love going into Parkstone Fisheries! The fish is of outstanding quality, mostly local and dayboat caught. The knowledge the whole team have is second to none. And if you want the bones for stock...probably best not get one that Jason has filleted as it will JUST be bones. Looking forward to going in there for many years to come!
We were so impressed with our first visit to Parkstone Fisheries. We received a very friendly welcome and advice on the fish they supply. We look forward to cooking the plaice tonight and the smoked haddock tomorrow. We're very pleased to know they smoke the fish themselves. We'll definitely visit again. It's sad that so many fishmongers have closed but we're grateful to have such a high quality shop near where we live.
