Fresh Fish Delivered to Wareham

Fresh fish, shellfish, and seafood delivered to Wareham from Poole's trusted fishmonger since the 1920s

Delivering to Wareham

We deliver to all Wareham postcodes (BH20) by refrigerated vehicle, Tuesday to Saturday. Free delivery, £40 minimum order.

Wareham is a historic Saxon walled town on the banks of the River Frome, at the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck. With Poole Harbour on its doorstep and a long connection to the sea, Wareham is a town that appreciates quality seafood, and Parkstone Fisheries delivers exactly that.

Serving the streets around Wareham Quay, Wareham Town Walls, Corfe Castle, Poole Harbour, RSPB Arne.

Fresh Off the Boat

Day-boat and locally landed wherever the catch allows, sourced each morning and never frozen-then-thawed. The same fish that fills our Parkstone counter goes into every Wareham order.

Prepared to Order, Your Way

Filleted, descaled, pin-boned, skinned or portioned exactly how you ask, by hand, by people who do it all day. Tell us how you're cooking it and we'll prepare it to match.

Chilled to Your Door

Delivered across Wareham in our own refrigerated van, not by a courier or the post. Free on orders over £40, Tuesday to Saturday, arriving as fresh as the counter.

From Our Counter

The Catch, Up Close

A Saxon Town Between Two Rivers

Wareham was laid out more than a thousand years ago, and it still wears its plan on the ground. Grass-banked walls box in the old town. North Street and South Street cross at the centre exactly as they have for centuries, and the quay still sits where the Frome runs down to meet the tide. Hem the place with the Piddle to the north and the Frome to the south and you get a town slightly set apart: walled, riverbound, and on the road to nowhere except Purbeck.

That position is the whole charm of it, and it’s also the catch. Wareham isn’t on the way to anywhere you’d pass through by accident. People here tend to shop in the town and stay in the town, which is fine until you want a piece of fish that came off a boat that morning. That is exactly what a proper fishmonger answers, and ours reaches you whether or not you fancy the drive.

Why the Drive Doesn’t Have to Be Yours

We’re situated on Bournemouth Road in Ashley Cross, about a quarter of an hour up the A351. You’re very welcome to make that trip; collection is free, there’s no minimum, and you get to point at the actual fish you want. Plenty of Wareham regulars treat it as part of a Poole morning.

But the run west matters more than the run in. We bring the fish to you across the whole of BH20 in our own refrigerated van, driven by us, not handed to a parcel network that treats a bass like a shoebox. By the time it reaches a kitchen in Stoborough or a cottage near Ridge, it’s in the same state it left the ice in. Order by 3pm and we’ll have it with you on the next available day, Tuesday to Saturday. Delivery is free over a £40 minimum, and you can fill a box from the whole shop in one go.

Cooking for People Who’ve Been on the Hills

Wareham sits at the front door of the Isle of Purbeck. Behind the town the chalk ridge rises toward Corfe Castle, and the path carries on over to Swanage and Studland and the long coast beyond. People come back off those hills properly hungry, the kind of appetite a day of wind and contour lines builds.

That’s a particular sort of cooking. You want something that rewards the effort but doesn’t ask for another hour at the stove once you’re through the door.

Quick suppers that still feel like a treat

A couple of fillets of fresh fish in a hot pan is fifteen minutes from boots-off to dinner. A bag of prawns turns last night’s leftovers into something worth sitting down for. And when nobody can face cooking at all, our smoked salmon, cured, smoked and sliced by us in Poole, is supper with a loaf of bread and nothing else required. If you want a method to follow, the recipes cover the weeknight staples.

A table laid out cold

There are evenings when the cooking should be the bit you skip. A seafood platter does that: built to be set down whole and picked at while everyone talks over the day’s walk. Add our own smoked fish and a bowl of the pâté we make on the premises and you’ve fed a room without lighting a hob. Platters want a little notice, so order a couple of days ahead.

Quayside Suppers and Riverside Kitchens

The houses nearest the water get the best of Wareham and, often, the trickiest delivery hours: the flats above the quay, the places down toward the Frome, the ones out past the walls toward the meadows. We work around that. Whether it’s a flat above the quay or a place out at Sandford, the van finds it.

There’s a connection to the harbour here too. The Frome empties into Poole Harbour, and the same waters off Purbeck land some genuinely good shellfish: crab and lobster among the best in the country when the season’s on, which is roughly the warm half of the year. If your supper plans run to a boat rather than a kitchen and you keep one on the harbour, we also handle yacht provisioning for the marinas around it.

Stoborough, Sandford and the Edge of the Walls

BH20 is bigger than the old town, and so is our round. We deliver out to Stoborough across the south bridge, up to Sandford and Holton Heath, along to Ridge, and on toward Corfe and the RSPB land at Arne. If the Purbeck ridge is your view from the kitchen window, you’re on the route.

A few honest details worth knowing. We’ve been a fishmonger since the 1920s, past the hundred-year mark now, and we still buy day-boat and locally landed wherever the boats allow. The counter is open Tuesday to Friday, 7:30am to 4pm, and Saturday until 3pm; we’re closed Sunday and Monday. The mornings hold the fullest slab. And the Google reviews sit at 4.7, which after a century we’ll take.

To order, browse the shop or talk to us on 01202 747661. Have a look at what’s in season before you decide, keep the frozen range in mind for the nights you didn’t plan for, and dip into the blog when you want to know what we’d cook ourselves.

I am a Private Chef and I love going into Parkstone Fisheries! The fish is of outstanding quality, mostly local and dayboat caught. The knowledge the whole team have is second to none. And if you want the bones for stock...probably best not get one that Jason has filleted as it will JUST be bones. Looking forward to going in there for many years to come!

★★★★★
We were so impressed with our first visit to Parkstone Fisheries. We received a very friendly welcome and advice on the fish they supply. We look forward to cooking the plaice tonight and the smoked haddock tomorrow. We're very pleased to know they smoke the fish themselves. We'll definitely visit again. It's sad that so many fishmongers have closed but we're grateful to have such a high quality shop near where we live.
